EFSA experts
EFSA uses the expertise of scientists from across Europe to assist with its work.
Database of scientific experts
The EFSA database of scientific experts is made up of people from a wide range of specilisations, such as food and feed safety, nutrition, toxicology, chemistry and animal welfare. It provides a pool of experts who EFSA can draw on when selecting future working group members.
The database aims to assist EFSA with its work on scientific risk assessment and improve the transparency of the way in which experts are selected and invited to participate in EFSA activities. The database will also be available to EU member states to select experts for their own scientific activities.
EFSA invites applications from experts from Europe and beyond with high specialisation in a wide range of scientific and expert fields, such as food safety, nutrition, toxicology, chemistry and animal welfare.
EFSA’s scientific network
One of EFSA’s priorities is to improve cooperation and networking in Europe and this is described in article 36 of Food Safety Regulation (EC) No 178/2002, which established EFSA. As a result, EFSA has established a list of scientific organisations that carry out tasks complementary to EFSA’s work and are able to assist EFSA. The list is based on nominations made by member states.
It is expected that the list will be opened for new nominations roughly every two years and new opportunities will be advertised on food.gov.uk
If you would like to find out more about either of these opportunities, you should contact Alisdair Wotherspoon at: efsa.focalpoint@foodstandards.gsi.gov.uk
