Welsh Language Policy
The Welsh Language Act 1993 states that every public body providing services to the public in Wales must prepare a Scheme setting out how it will provide those services in Welsh. The Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) first Welsh Language Scheme was operational between 2002 and 2007 and the FSA is now operating its second scheme for 2008 - 2012.
In October 2007, the FSA established an in-house Welsh Language Unit to oversee the implementation of the Scheme.
Details of the current Welsh Language Scheme for 2008-2012 can be seen below along will the details of the previous Scheme.
As from 1 April 2010, the Meat Hygiene Service (MHS), an executive agency of the FSA, has formally merged with FSA, resulting in a new Foreword to the Welsh Language Scheme, along with the new public facing Action Plan, both of which can be seen below.
