Enforcement
The Food Standards Agency oversees local authority enforcement activities for food law. It sets and monitors standards and audits local authorities' activities to ensure enforcement arrangements are proportionate, consistent and transparent. Powers to enable the Agency to monitor and audit local authorities are contained in the Food Standards Act 1999.
The Agency also supports local authorities by funding training, providing grants and making other resources available.
