Wednesday 16 July 2003
Category D: For Information Only
Heads of Environmental Health Services and Directors of Trading Standards will wish to be aware that the owners of Longley Farm of Holmfirth, West Yorkshire are withdrawing 2kg containers of dairy butter, because the product has been linked to an outbreak of listeriosis in the Yorkshire and Humberside region. Listeria monocytogenes has been found in some batches of butter that have now passed their 'use by date'.
The 2kg dairy butter is distributed nationally and batches currently in distribution are being recalled on a precautionary basis. The producer of the butter has contacted all companies known to have received the 2kg containers of butter and recalled the supplies. The local authority, in which the dairy is based, is ensuring that all the butter is recalled by contacting the enforcement officers in local authorities with any of the food premises that received the butter. They in turn have been asked to contact or visit the companies in their area to ensure that no 2kg containers of butter are still available or in use.
