Thursday 16 September 2004
Category D: For information only
Ref: 42/2004
Chief environmental health officers in Northern Ireland will wish to be aware of a product recall by Linwoods Bakery John Woods (Lisglynn) Ltd of Linwoods Sliced Wheaten Ring 400g and Open Oven Sliced Buttermilk Wheaten Ring.
This is due to contamination of the batch with best before date 17 September 2004 with hard plastic pieces.
Linwoods has received three complaints regarding the batch of 1300 units of the bread products produced on Sunday 12 September 2004 and distributed on Monday 13 September 2004.
Linwoods' own vans distributed 1260 of the Linwoods Sliced Wheaten Rings directly to retail outlets throughout Northern Ireland.
Forty Open Oven Sliced Buttermilk Wheaten Rings were distributed by Open Oven Bakery to retail outlets in the Derry City Council area and in County Donegal.
The source of the contamination was a plastic jug, used on the production line, which made its way into the product.
Linwoods has instructed all van drivers to collect any product remaining in retail outlets and is issuing a product recall notice to appear on Friday 17 September 2004 in the Northern Ireland daily press.
