Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd withdraw its own Basics brand Plain Chocolate 100g size

Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has withdrawn its own Basics brand, Plain Chocolate 100g size, due to cross-contamination with milk. There is no advisory labelling on the product to warn consumers of this possibility.
Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has withdrawn the product from sale. Product withdrawal notices are to be placed in the national press today to alert consumers who are allergic or intolerant to milk of the problem, and advise them of what actions to take if they have purchased the product. In addition, Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign who will inform all their milk allergic members directly via a mail shot of the recall.

Sainsbury's Basic Brand Plain Chocolate 100g

Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd has also identified an error in the labelling of other products from the same manufacturer as the Plain Chocolate. These are not to be withdrawn from sale. The products have the presence of butterfat correctly listed in the ingredients panel but do not state 'Contains Milk' in the allergy advice panel. The presence of the butterfat makes this item unsafe for individuals who are allergic or intolerant to milk. Point-of-sale notices are to be displayed in all stores to advise consumers who are allergic to or intolerant to milk and advise them of what actions to take if they have purchased one of the products.
The products identified are:
- Sainsbury's Plain Chocolate 200g and 400g
- Sainsbury's Plain Chocolate ' Whole Nut 200g
- Sainsbury's Plain Chocolate ' Fruit and Nut 200g
No other Sainsbury's products are known to be affected.

These products contain milk in the form of butterfat. This is not stated in the allergy advice box but is correctly declared in the ingredients list.
Customers who have a milk allergy and have bought these products should not eat them. They should return them to a store where they will receive a full refund.
