Euro Quality Lambs Ltd (UK 4451) has distributed lambs’ brains that were not presented for post-mortem inspection. Therefore, this product should not have been given an identification mark and allowed into the human food chain.

The product is distributed chilled, packaged in clear takeaway style plastic containers (see attached photo) and it can be frozen.

Euro Quality Lambs Ltd is recalling lambs brain from these businesses that may have received the product. Officials are monitoring the recall. However, there is suspicion that some lambs’ brains may have been supplied to additional premises and possibly available on sale in other areas apart from those already identified local authorities.

No other Euro Quality Lambs Ltd products are affected by the product recall.

If you have purchased this product, please do not consume.

Actions to be taken by enforcement authorities:

As the product was not presented for the post-mortem inspection, it does not comply with the requirements of Regulation (EC) No. 853/2004 which lays down the specific hygiene rules for food of animal origin, and therefore should be removed from sale.

If any of this product is found during routine inspections, enforcement officers should ensure that it is withdrawn from sale and destroyed, if necessary using powers under the Food Safety Act 1990 and the General Food Regulations 2004. Any product found should be disposed as Category 1 animal-by product.
