The authority was generally adhering to its unwritten sampling policy and sampling programme, and appropriate follow up action was being taken in response to unsatisfactory sample results in accordance with the authority's enforcement policy.

There was substantial under spend of the budget available for food sampling. The authority advised that this was due to a lack of staff resources able to carry out this work, which the authority hoped to address in the future by developing a dedicated food team.
