Slough has achieved an effective balance in its sampling policy and programme between participation in co-ordinated sampling surveys and sampling from the Borough's high risk premises.

Appropriate follow up action on food sampling was being taken in line with the Authority's enforcement policy. Formal enforcement action had been taken following unsatisfactory food sampling results including the service of improvement notices and the issue of a formal caution.

The Authority had been unable to fulfil its commitment to its sampling programme in 2001/2002 because of a shortage of officers in both food hygiene and standards, although sampling levels had increased in 2002.
