Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council
Tuesday 29 July 2003
3 December 2002
Executive Summary
Walsall's sampling policy adopted a risk based approach with an emphasis on foods manufactured locally and participation in co-ordinated sampling surveys.
The Authority had developed an extensive food sampling programme, in line with quantitative targets set out in its Food Service Plan and the programme was being implemented for 2002/2003.
The Authority had established effective liaison arrangements with neighbouring authorities and the laboratory services.
A wide range of monitoring arrangements were in place to review the results of sampling surveys and to monitor progress of the sampling programme.
Effective follow up action was being taken in response to unsatisfactory food standards sample results.
This included using sample results as supporting evidence for formal enforcement actions, when appropriate, and in accordance with the Authority's Enforcement Policy.
