The Moray Council’s Food Safety Service is contained within the Environmental Health Section, which forms part of the Development Services Division. The Environmental Health Manager has overall managerial responsibility for management of the food service and a Principal Environmental Health Officer is designated as having special responsibility for food hygiene and food standards. The Trading Standards Manager has managerial responsibility for feedingstuffs, supported by Senior Trading Standards Officer who specialises in feedingstuffs.
Service delivery points are based at Moray Council access points in the towns of Elgin, Keith and Buckie, although authorised officers for food safety and standards are based centrally at the Council Office, High Street, and for feedingstuffs at 232 High Street, both in Elgin. Access points are open from 8:45 am until 5pm Monday to Friday, although the food safety service is staffed from 8am until 6pm, and outwith these hours should the situation demand.
The food service is provided through three multi-disciplinary teams. In addition to food hygiene, Officers have responsibilities for other aspects of Environmental Health including health and safety at work, public health, environmental protection, housing and contaminated land.
The Trading Standards Service enforces feedingstuffs legislation alongside the full range of other consumer protection statutes, including Weights and Measures, Trade Descriptions and Consumer Credit.
