FSA-funded training for food and feed law enforcement officers

Update training is available to UK feed and food law enforcement officers. The courses are part of the continuing programme of quality update training for enforcers at a cost that is affordable to local authorities. The courses are not available for the general public, students or consultants.

Training for 2013-14

The Agency is pleased to announce an extension of the training programme available to UK food and feed law enforcement officers. The Agency’s 'master vendor', Campden BRI, continues to supply the majority of the training for local authorities.

A list of the courses, and dates and venues (where known), together with further details, such as learning outcomes, aims and objectives, can be found below.

Evaluation and feedback

As a condition of attendance, delegates will be expected to supply feedback on the long-term effects of the course. This will take the form of a survey two or three months after the training event to discover how the training has affected and enhanced the delegate’s day-to-day work in the local authority.

This allows the Agency to properly evaluate the effectiveness of courses and target the resources it delivers for enforcement officer training more effectively.

Most of the Agency’s courses are over-subscribed. If officers do not complete the feedback as requested, it may affect the allocation of places to other officers in their local authority on future courses.

As the Agency’s training is only available to a limited number of officers, it is expected that delegates will, as appropriate, cascade the training upon return to their local authority.

How to apply

Some of the courses are available for Food Liaison Groups and CIEH centres to book on behalf of their group and others are available for individual officers to apply for places.

You can apply for courses, whether as a Food Liaison Group or as an individual officer, as appropriate, on specially set up web pages on Campden BRI’s Website.

An application does not guarantee a place. All applications will be considered by the Agency and places allocated to those that would benefit the most.

    Evaluation of Agency-funded training

The Agency has issued a report on the 'Effective Evaluation of Food Safety Management Systems' course. The report is now available online.

As part of the Agency’s response to some of the recommendations to the Report of the Public Inquiry into the outbreak of E. coli O157 in Wales in 2005, the Agency ran a programme of training courses for local authority food law enforcement officers.

Between 5 November 2009 and 31 March 2010, 49 courses were run in England and a total of 1,024 delegates attended.
