Grants for local initiatives

The Agency has run schemes to provide grants to support and encourage local authorities to develop and implement local food hygiene initiatives since 2003 in England and since 2004 in Scotland.

In 2005 the initiative was extended to include projects aimed at also improving nutritional standards and in 2007 it was made available to local authorities throughout the UK.

As indicated in the Agency's Strategic Plan 2005–2010, the Agency remains committed to reducing foodborne illness as well as encouraging consumers to choose a healthy diet, particularly where this relates to schools and vulnerable or disadvantaged groups.

The grants scheme for 2009-10 was launched on 27 February 2009.

The closing date for applications for 2009 was 24 April 2009 - no further applciations can now be accepted for 2009.
