Dairy hygiene inspections
Tuesday 11 September 2007
Animal Health dairy hygiene inspectors act on behalf of the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in administering and enforcing parts of Regulations (EC) Nos 852/2004, 853/2004, 854/2004 and The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 and Food Hygiene (Wales) Regulations 2006 as amended.
These regulations came into force on 1 January 2006 replacing the Dairy Products (Hygiene) Regulations 1995, and apply to all premises used for production of raw milk for human consumption. This involves the registration of approved production premises (dairy farms), inspection of milking premises, equipment and milk-producing animals, and enforcing satisfactory standards.
The Animal Health dairy hygiene inspectors also supervise a milk sampling programme of Raw Drinking Milk carried out on behalf of FSA by Eclipse Scientific Group in England and Wales, with regard to the provisions of the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 and Food Hygiene (Wales) Regulations 2006 as amended.
