Imported Food Project Group
The Imported Food Project Group was set up following the Ministers' agreement in May 2004 that the Step Change in the enforcement of imported food controls had been achieved. Ministers said that it was vital that Government Departments and Local Government continue to work together and progress the initiatives under way.
Terms of Reference
To role of the Group is to:
- co-ordinate improvements in, and support for, imported food enforcement activity by local and central government within the UK
- contribute to the work plan on activity begun in 2003-04 to deliver the step change, and to develop new approaches to improve the co-ordination and delivery of imported food controls, and to review progress regularly
- assist in evaluating the outcomes of the Step Change and its impact on enforcement, public and trade stakeholders to inform policy development
Membership
Membership of the Group includes representatives from the Food Standards Agency, HM Revenue & Customs, Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Association of Port Health Authorities (APHA), Local Authorities Coordinators of Regulatory Services (LACORS), Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), Sea Ports (large and small), Inland Local Authorities and airports.
