Myfoodspace is an interactive DVD-ROM developed to help teachers engage young people (9 to 11 years) in learning about food labelling within the background of healthy eating and a balanced diet.
The DVD-ROM includes the myfoodspace interactive, a teachers’ centre with teacher's notes, lesson plans, pupil worksheets, slide presentations and professional development videos. Designed to be both modern and engaging, pupils can meet young role-models and learn how to make safe, healthy choices about food.
Myfoodspace has been developed to:
- help make learning about food labels fun by using interactive elements including cooking videos and games
- engage young people by creating a simulated place akin to an online social network where young people ‘meet’ and share their ideas about food, activity and life
- support and complement all UK curricula, with links to science PSHE/PSE/personal development and design and technology as well as areas of English, mathematics and ICT
- respond to research on the Agency’s food competences framework, which highlighted that learning about food labels was not consistent among young people
The teacher's notes for myfoodspace include an introduction to myfoodspace, detailed lesson plans and curriculum links. You can download the teacher's notes at the link below.
The 'Know your label' game forms part of the myfoodspace interactive. It gives an introduction to the labels that are found on food packages and allows pupils to read the ingredients list and nutritional information to guess the correct traffic light labels for a variety of foods.
