I want to open a food stall during the Olympics
Yes, you must register your stall as a food business with your local authority. If the proposed site is on the highway (which is any public road or path), then you also need to apply to the local authority where the site is located, and get a street trading licence. I'd like to open a stall to sell cold drinks and other prepared and packaged food
The law requires that ‘you need to be trained commensurate with your duties’. It is helpful if you have some knowledge of food safety, but you would not necessarily need to attend a formal food hygiene course. Your local authority will be able to give advice when you apply for registration.

Can I set up a stall outside an Olympic venue
Only traders that already hold a licence from the local authority and the Olympic Delivery Authority will be able to trade in the 'zones'. To trade in an area outside the 'zones' you should contact the relevant local authority for the area where you want to trade about how to apply for a street trading licence. Anyone trading without a licence will be subject to enforcement action.

What do I need to open a mobile food stall?
You need to register with the local authority for food safety purposes. If the site is on the highway (a public road or path) then you’ll also need to apply for a street trading licence from the local authority in which you intend to trade. The local authority will want to check your stall to ensure that you’ll be able to comply with safety and hygiene and regulations.

I want to open a stall selling cooked food
The local authority will give you advice on the level of training that it expects you to have. The level of training you need will depend on what you’re selling.

I'm already a food business operator
If the land in front of your premises is a highway (a public road or path) you’ll need to apply for a street trading licence from the local authority. And you’ll need to ensure that food sold on the stall meets food safety requirements.

Yes, you’ll need to apply for individual street trading licences from each local authority in which you plan to trade.
