Welsh Food Advisory Committee members reappointed
John Spence, Chair of the Welsh Food Advisory Committee (WFAC) has welcomed the extended terms of appointment of three members to the committee.
This advisory committee is chaired by John Spence, Food Standards Agency Board member for Wales, who was appointed by the UK Government and the Welsh Assembly Government. The committee comprises eight independent experts who are selected for their experience and practical knowledge of areas such as nutrition, agriculture, food-related science and consumer interests. These members are also appointed by the Welsh Assembly Government.
The three reappointed members are:
- Mr Derek Morgan – an upland beef and sheep farmer in the Wye Valley
- Mrs Sue Jones – Director of the cooperative ‘Cheeses from Wales’ and a member of the UK Specialist Cheesemakers Association
- Dr Hugh Jones – a Senior Lecturer in Genetics and Molecular Biology at Swansea University
John Spence said: 'I am delighted with these reappointments, which will ensure that WFAC continues to consist of individuals with a wide range of food-related backgrounds and in depth knowledge. Drawing on this wide range of experience guarantees that thorough and well-considered advice on every aspect of food is given to the Agency by the committee.'
