Sainsbury’s is recalling its Freefrom brand Rich Fruit Cake Slices with a ‘best before’ date of 4 November 2010, because the product contains low levels of wheat gluten, which isn’t mentioned on the product label. This makes the product a possible health risk to anyone with a gluten intolerance or an allergy to or intolerance of wheat. The Agency has issued an Allergy Alert.

The Food Standards Agency has issued an updated Allergy Alert, because further bottles of Heidsieck Monopole Blue Top NV Champagne do not mention on their label that the product contains sulphites. This means the product is a possible health risk to anyone who is sensitive to sulphites.

The Vending Revolution withdraws some Snack-a-Can brand sweets

The Vending Revolution has withdrawn some Fizzy Jelly Mix and Fizzy Cola Bottles sweets, because the metal bottom of the can that contains the sweets has been inserted the wrong way. This means the sweets might react with the metal base and cause the metal to corrode and the sweets to change colour. Snack-a-Can brand products are sold by vending machines.

The Agency last week traced animals born in the UK from eight embryos produced by a cloned cow in the US. Four of these embryos were male calves and four were female. All were Holstein animals, a breed mainly used for dairy production.
