Research on the fate of GM animal feed
Friday 12 December 2003
The Food Standards Agency has funded research on the fate of genetically modified DNA or protein when cows are given GM animal feed.
The results from this work have been published in the December 2003 issue of the peer-reviewed American Journal of Dairy Science.
The research shows that neither GM DNA or protein was found in milk or blood samples. However, fragments of a non-GM gene from the feed was found to be present in some of the samples analysed.
The findings are in line with previous studies on the fate of GM DNA from animal feed in livestock.
