Targets proposed for nutrient content of school meals
Tuesday 26 July 2005
The Agency today launched a consultation on proposals to introduce targets for the nutrient content of some manufactured foods used in school meals.
The aim of the proposed voluntary targets is to improve the nutritional composition of these products and so support Government work to review nutritional standards for school meals.
The targets will provide the food industry with benchmarks for their products and give school caterers a reference point to assist in negotiating and establishing contracts for school meal provision.
