Iceland recalls egg fried rice
Friday 18 November 2005
Iceland Foods Ltd has recalled a batch of its own-brand Chinese Takeaway Egg Fried Rice due to a packaging error.
The Food Standards Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.
The error means a batch of Special Fried Rice has been packed in Egg Fried Rice packaging, so the affected packs do not show the correct ingredients or allergy advisory statement. They contain shellfish, gluten and pork as ingredients, which makes this product unsafe for individuals who have an allergy or intolerance to these ingredients. It would also be unsuitable for people wanting to avoid pork for religious reasons.
The recalled product is:
Iceland Chinese Takeaway Egg Fried Rice, 350g
Best before: 30 April 2007
Batch number: L5304
This product has been distributed to four Iceland depots in the UK. Iceland has undertaken a full product recall and point-of-sale notices have been issued to all Iceland stores for display from 18 November 2005. In addition, Iceland Foods Ltd has been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign which will inform all their relevant members of the recall via a mailshot.
No other Iceland products are known to be affected.
Food alerts
Food alerts are the FSA's way of letting local authorities and consumers know about problems associated with food and, in some cases, providing details of specific action to be taken. They are issued under two categories:
- Food Alerts: for Action
- Food Alerts: for Information
