Consultation on European Commission guidelines on national control plans
Wednesday 23 November 2005
The Food Standards Agency is seeking views on the draft European Commission guidelines on the preparation of multi-annual national control plans for monitoring and enforcement of feed and food law animal and welfare rules as required by EU Regulation 882/2004 on official controls.
The aim of the EU Regulation is to improve the consistency and effectiveness of arrangements for monitoring and enforcement of feed and food law and animal health and welfare rules within Member States and across Europe. The purpose of the plan is to ensure the effective implementation of an official control system in these areas, as well as for plant health law.
The consultation is UK wide and includes a draft initial Public Sector Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) on the UK national control plan.
The Commission hopes to adopt its guidelines in mid-February 2006. In view of this any comments on the draft guidelines and associated RIA should be submitted by 1 February 2006. Details of how to do this can be found below. The Agency will consider carefully all views and comments received.
