FSA Scotland publishes new hygiene leaflets
Wednesday 9 November 2005
Food Standards Agency Scotland has published two leaflets for farmers, growers and food businesses explaining the changes in hygiene regulations being implemented on 1 January 2006.
New EC Feed Hygiene Regulations - Feed Hygiene for Farmers, Growers and other Feed Businesses
From 1 January 2006, the new EC Feed Hygiene Regulation (EC 183/2005) will apply to all businesses that make, use or market animal feed. This includes most livestock and arable farms that grow, use or sell crops for feed use.
The regulation fulfils a commitment in the Commissions White Paper of 2000 and is intended to ensure that businesses involved in the use and production of feed take all appropriate steps to control potential feed hazards, at every stage.
The Food Standards Agency Scotland has produced the attached leaflet with the aim of highlighting to farmers, growers and other feed businesses how the new EC Regulations may affect them.
New EC Food Hygiene Regulations - Food Hygiene for Farmers
In 2000, the European Commission published a package of five proposed measures to update and consolidate 17 existing hygiene directives which currently determine many of the food controls in effect in the UK.
This new EU legislation has been adopted and will apply in the UK and all member states from 1 January 2006.
The new rules include requirements for primary producers, in many cases for the first time. For farmers, this means they will have to follow good practice and ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to control potential hazards.
Food Standards Agency Scotland has produced the attached leaflet, in consultation with the Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department, with the aim of highlighting to farmers how the new EC Regulations may affect them.
These leaflets are now available to download in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format.
