Waitrose withdraws shellfish products
Friday 16 March 2007
Waitrose Ltd has withdrawn two shellfish and crustacean products due to the wrong 'use by' date inadvertently being applied. The Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.
Product details
The products being withdrawn are:
- Waitrose Hebridean White Crab Meat 100g
- Waitrose Mini Shellfish Selections 180g
Both are labelled use by: 16 April (instead of 16 March).
The products are sold exclusively through Waitrose supermarkets. Waitrose has withdrawn them from shelves and has placed point-of-sale notices in all its stores. These notices advise consumers who have bought the product not to eat them but to take them back to Waitrose for a full refund.
Food alerts
Food alerts are the FSA's way of letting local authorities and consumers know about problems associated with food and, in some cases, providing details of specific action to be taken. They are issued under two categories:
- Food Alerts: for Action
- Food Alerts: for Information
