Lamb recall update: 25 October 2007

Asda has clarified information on the lamb products it is recalling, after it had been supplied with lamb by Welsh Country Foods Ltd that had not been intended to be eaten. The Agency has issued a Food Alert for Action.
The extra information is the use-by dates for this lamb, but refers to the same products that were listed in the original point-of-sale notice Asda issued.
The products with their use-by dates are detailed below. Only these products and item numbers are affected by the recall.

The batches of lamb being recalled may contain meat from sheep sold for breeding purposes and were not intended to enter the food chain immediately. Some of the sheep had been treated with veterinary drugs (including doramectin) to combat sheep scab that was not given enough time to pass through the animals' systems.
Concerns around doramectin relate to repeated exposure that has caused sickness and other effects in laboratory animals.
