Contractor sought for dietary survey

The Food Standards Agency is looking for a contractor to carry out a dietary survey of infants and young children. This will be used to assist the Agency and Department of Heath to make sure people have the best available dietary information and nutritional advice to allow them to make informed choices about their diet.
The survey will aim to provide robust detailed information, on the food and nutrients consumed by a representative sample of infants and young children post weaning in the UK, in order to support existing data on the dietary intake of the UK population.
What is the scope of the contract?
The services required include:
- dietary data collection and analysis of a representative sample of 1,500-2,000 subjects aged between 4 and 18 months (to include quantitative information on the types of foods and volumes of breast/formula milk consumed)
- collection of additional data:
- demographic data
- basic health-related information (including developmental attainment)
- basic anthropometric measurements
- socioeconomic variables (including that relating to other family members)
- updating the existing survey Nutrient Databank with data for those specialist infant milks and foods consumed by subjects in the survey
- analysis of data and production of a report detailing the findings
Who can apply?
Applications from collaborative partnerships able to deliver all aspects of the survey are encouraged. The Agency will also accept expressions of interest from bodies interested in carrying out just part of the work.
How long is the contract for?
The duration of the contract will be a maximum of two years, aiming to commence in April 2009 with a report delivered in 2011.
How to express an interest
Applicants need to demonstrate that they meet the commercial and technical requirements. To do this they must complete and return a questionnaire by midday 5 September 2008.
