The Health Store recalls dried apricots
Wednesday 31 December 2008
The Health Store is recalling a batch of its own-brand Whole, Dried Apricots due to incorrect allergen information. The batch contains sulphites, which are not declared on the label and make this batch of apricots a potential health risk for people who are sensitive to sulphites. The Agency has issued an allergy alert.
Sulphites are used as a preservative in the apricots so customers who are sensitive to sulphites are advised not to consume this product.
Product being recalled
- Product: Whole, Dried Apricots 500g
- Brand: The Health Store
- Best before: 13 June 2009
- Batch code: 40 259
No other products from The Health Store are known to be affected. The Health Store has recalled the affected product and contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, who will inform their at-risk members of the recall. Notices are being displayed in store to alert consumers to the reasons for the recall, and the actions they can take if they have bought the product.
Allergy alerts
Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk.
In such situations the Agency will issue an Allergy Alert. It is also possible to subscribe to an email alert system to receive automatic messages whenever Allergy Alerts are issued. Click on 'Get alerts' in the box at the bottom of this page to find more details.
You can get details of all the latest allergy alerts as soon as they're issued by getting the details sent as a SMS text message direct to your mobile phone.
To sign up to this free service, simply send the text message ‘START ALLERGY’ to the number 62372. To unsubscribe, just text 'STOP ALLERGY' to the same number.
