Bart Spices recalls organic purple cornmeal
Tuesday 4 March 2008
Bart Spices Ltd has recalled all batches of its Organic Purple Cornmeal, due to the presence of excess fumonisins. The Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.
Fumonisins are types of mycotoxin. These are naturally-occurring toxic chemicals that are produced by some moulds. While the levels found in the cornmeal are above the legal limits, there is unlikely to be any immediate risk to people's health.
Product details
The product being recalled is:
Organic Purple Cornmeal
- Pack size: 200g
- Batch codes: All batch codes
No other Bart Spices Ltd products are known to be affected.
Bart Spices has recalled all batches of the product from sale. Point-of-sale notices have been displayed in all stores supplied with the cornmeal. These notices are advising customers of the reason for the recall and the actions they can take if they have already bought the affected product.
Food alerts
If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). Food alerts are the FSA's way of letting local authorities and consumers know about problems associated with food and, in some cases, providing details of specific action to be taken. They are issued under two categories:
- Food Alerts: for Action
- Food Alerts: for Information
You can get FSA alerts either by email or SMS text. Visit the Get Alerts page at the link below to find out how.
