Recall of Chilli and Lemon Roasted Pistachios from Julian Graves
Friday 9 January 2009
Julian Graves is starting a recall of a batch of chilli and lemon roasted pistachios following tests showing levels of aflatoxins 600 times higher than the legal limit.
The affected nuts (Lot number: LF02454, Batch code: 8282D4A, Best before: APR2009) are sold in Julian Graves stores and were immediately withdrawn from sale on 2 January. The company has initiated a recall of the affected nuts.

The science behind the story
Aflatoxins are a type of toxin found naturally in some foods. They are produced by certain moulds that grow on foods in tropical and sub-tropical countries. There maybe an increased risk of cancer in people whose diets include high levels of aflatoxins. For this reason, in the UK and the rest of the EU, there are legal limits for aflatoxins in foods, to make sure that people take in as little of them as possible.
