New members for expert novel foods committee

The Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes (ACNFP) today announced the appointment of a new chair and a new expert committee member following a national recruitment exercise.
The new chair is Professor Peter Gregory, who is the Chief Executive of the Scottish Crop Research Institute.
The new expert member is Professor Peter Meyer, who is Professor of Plant Genetics, at the University of Leeds Centre for Plant Sciences.
Both take up their appointments on 1 December 2009.
About the ACNFP and novel foods
The ACNFP is the independent body of scientific experts that advises the Food Standards Agency on any matters relating to novel foods (including genetically modified foods) and novel processes (including food irradiation). A novel food is a food or food ingredient that does not have a significant history of consumption within the European Union before 15 May 1997.
