New Board member for Northern Ireland appointed

Dr Henrietta Campbell has been appointed as the new Board member for Northern Ireland and as the Chair of the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee (NIFAC).
Dr Campbell studied medicine at Queen’s University Belfast, and began her career working with the British Forces, and then with the Prison Medical Service. She has worked in general practice, public health medicine, and was appointed Chief Medical Officer in the Department of Health and Social Services in Northern Ireland from 1995 to 2006.
Dr Campbell is currently a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, and was also appointed to the Prison Service Pay Review Body in July 2006, and then as a UK Electoral Commissioner in August 2007. In addition to these posts, Dr Campbell has a number of commitments to health charities in Ireland.
This appointment was made by Michael McGimpsey MLA, Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety in Northern Ireland. Dr Campbell is due to start on September 1 2010, for a period of three years. Dr Campbell will work for seven days per month, and will divide her time between Board duties and NIFAC. She will receive £24,391 per annum for this post. Dr Campbell also received £24,768 and £10,500 in the financial year 2009/10 for her work with the Electoral Commission and the Prison Service Pay Review Body respectively.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Dr Campbell has not declared any political activity.
