The Meat Hygiene Service (MHS) responded today, 21 November, to the announcement that UNISON's members have voted for industrial action by stating that the MHS believes that through further talks the two parties can reach an agreement.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has today issued new advice to pregnant women on daily caffeine consumption. This follows research carried out on behalf of the Agency by the Universities of Leeds and Leicester.
Assets recovered from abattoir operator

A former abattoir manager, Ibrahim Moosa Yusuf, has this week been ordered to pay £317,135 following a hearing at Leeds Crown Court under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. This came as a result of a prosecution in November 2006 relating to the breach of a Prohibition Order from managing a food business.

A joint working group representing the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the Meat Hygiene Service (MHS) and the meat industry has issued its final report on efficient deployment of MHS resources in abattoirs.
