The Food Standards Agency is organising a 2-day review meeting in October 2007 to bring together stakeholders to evaluate the outcome of interventions and impact of the Foodborne Disease Strategy on reducing burden of disease in the UK.
A preliminary evaluation of the Strategy’s activities, published in May 2006, highlighted successes in some areas of the Strategy but also recognised that initiatives in some other areas had yet to be implemented fully at that time. Now that the work of original Strategy is complete, it is timely to review the more thoroughly the outcomes of interventions and their impact on reducing the burden of UK foodborne disease.
To carry out this review, the Agency will be holding an open expert workshop to formally review the FDS at the Menzies Cambridge Hotel and Golf Club on 1–2 October 2007.
The event will include a presentations to review factors associated with the burden of foodborne disease in the UK along with focussed group discussion sessions to explore changes in the epidemiology of foodborne disease for different food groups and for key pathogens. It is intended that outcomes of the review will be published by March 2008.
All interested parties are welcome to attend the event.
