Shellfish Stakeholder Forum
Details of the Food Standards Agency's Forum bringing together stakeholders to co-operate over the issue of atypical results in the mouse bioassay for Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisons.
Background
The independently chaired Shellfish Stakeholder Forum has been established by the Agency to bring together stakeholders with an interest in the issues surrounding the observation of atypical results in the mouse bioassay for Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisons (DSP). This forward looking advisory Forum will permit wide-ranging discussions of the atypical issue.
The Forum will bring key stakeholders together on a regular basis to allow an exchange of views and information on matters associated with the atypical results, and to facilitate communication between stakeholders. This will encourage co-ordination between stakeholders to maximise effectiveness of actions and avoid duplication.
The Forum will assist in the identification of further potential opportunities for research to resolve the issue of atypical results in the mouse bioassay to test for DSP and support an effective, co-ordinated research strategy.
Members of the Forum are appointed as representatives of particular stakeholder interests, or because of their relevant expertise, and comprise:
- Consumers
- Shellfish industry
- Local Authorities
