Glasgow based Dr Benton has a BSc (Hons) Microbiology degree from the University of Glasgow and a PhD and MBA from the University of Strathclyde. She has had a career in Scotland�s public sector water industry spanning over 31 years and held a number of senior management positions. She has a wide range of experience in a number of public health areas and laboratory management. She has successfully completed the Master of Public Health degree at the University of Glasgow.
She has served on many government committees amongst which, are the E.coli 0157 Task Force, the Cairns Smith Guidance on the Management of Food-borne outbreaks and the Badenoch and Bouchier Expert Groups on Cryptosporidium. She has published a number of papers and lectured extensively in the UK, Europe and North America.
In 2000 she was awarded an MBE for recognition for her contribution to microbiology, research and development and public health aspects of water supplies.
