With Wales having enjoyed a sunny summer, barbecues have been firmly on the menu. The approaching bank holiday weekend (22-25 August) signifies the end of the summer holidays for many of us before we return to work or school. It’s no surprise then that over half of us (61%) are planning to take advantage of what might be the last barbecue of the season.

Food allergen management workshop: Royal Welsh Show 23 July 2014

The Food Standards Agency will be holding a food allergen management workshop to raise awareness of the proposed changes due to take effect from December 2014. The workshop is aimed mainly at food business operators, such as food manufacturers, food processors and caterers, as well as local enforcement authorities.

Parents in Wales serve up their kids' food hygiene habits

Parents in Wales have a big influence on their children’s food hygiene habits, according to our survey. The results show a link between how people in the country currently prepare their food and the behaviours they experienced when they were kids. More than two thirds of adults in Wales (72%) said their parents insisted on washing hands before meals, with 63% now doing the same themselves.

We are urging people in Wales to stop washing raw chicken

We have issued a call for people in Wales and across the UK to stop washing raw chicken to reduce the risk of contracting campylobacter, which can lead to a potentially dangerous form of food poisoning. The call comes as new figures released today show that 48% of people in Wales always wash chicken before cooking it.

Invitation to shellfish meeting

The Food Standards Agency in Wales is holding a stakeholder meeting on Thursday 26 June for operators of shellfish businesses, their trade associations and those with an interest in the shellfish industry. The meeting is also for those that have a responsibility for shellfish waters around the coasts of Wales, such as Welsh Government and Natural Resources Wales. You are invited to attend.
