Building on the past successes of its Awards For Food Action Locally (AFAL) scheme over the past four years, Food Standards Agency Wales is inviting applications for the 2008 award. These AFAL Awards recognise individual or team contributions to local nutrition initiatives that have made a positive impact on the diet or eating habits of residents in the communities within which they operate.

The Food Standards Agency has acknowledged the publication of the report of the Outbreak Control Team (OCT) which managed the South Wales E. coli O157 outbreak in September 2005. This report details the comprehensive investigations that were undertaken as the outbreak developed and the measures that were put into place to control the outbreak.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) Wales is today publishing its seventh Consumer Attitudes to Food Survey. The annual survey reveals that healthy eating is a key concern for consumers with many people checking labels for nutritional information on a regular basis. The survey also highlights an increasing awareness of 5-a-day messaging.
