Science report on exciting developments in whole-genome sequencing published

The FSA has today published the new Science Report by its Chief Scientific Adviser Professor Guy Poppy. In this third issue of the Science Report, Professor Poppy looks at whole-genome sequencing, the science of mapping the genetic make-up of micro-organisms, and how this new technology can help the FSA’s work to ensure food is safe and authentic.

New appointments to the FSA Board

The Food Standards Agency has announced four new appointments to the FSA Board. David Brooks, Rosie Glazebrook, Stewart Houston and Paul Williams will serve an initial three year term ending in 2019.

Selfridges Christmas Puddings recalled due to the presence of mould

The manufacturer, Melrose and Morgan, is recalling its Christmas Puddings produced for Selfridges, with a ‘best before’ date of 30 April 2016, due to the presence of mould. Although Christmas puddings are a seasonal product and it is likely that they will already have been eaten, some may still be held by consumers, as the 'best before' date is still current.

Boulder Brands UK Ltd recalls Udi's seeded products because of sesame seeds

Boulder Brands UK Ltd is recalling some packs of Udi’s Multi Seeded Bagels, Multiseed Bread and Multi Seeded Rolls because the sunflower seed ingredient in these products may be contaminated with sesame seeds. This ingredient is not mentioned on the product labels, which means that the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to sesame.
