Crucial crew food safety workshops

Crucial Crew is a series of workshops which aims to provide primary school children with valuable information on a wide range of important safety issues and services. Together with key stakeholders such as local authorities, the police and the fire service, the Agency has actively participated in the Crucial Crew throughout Wales for many years.

The Agency provide fun, short food safety workshops to children in years 5 and 6, focusing on promoting awareness of the food hygiene’s 4 Cs message in relation to food safety:

  • Cleaning – wash hands properly and keep them clean
  • Cross contamination – avoid cross contamination
  • Cooking – cook food properly
  • Chilling – chill food properly

Through these workshops children learn the importance of these key food safety messages and gain an understanding of how good food hygiene is obtained and maintained.

During 2011/12, the Crucial Crew workshops have been delivered to 24,000 children (as of March 2012) at various locations throughout Wales, receiving enthusiastic support from both teachers and students.
