Food safety and hygiene e-learning course for schools
Friday 30 December 2011
For the 2011/12 academic year the Agency is sponsoring the delivery of a free e-learning course to schools in Wales who wish to offer ‘Level II Food Safety and Hygiene (Catering)’ training to pupils.
The Agency believes that this City and Guilds accredited qualification offers students an ideal opportunity to develop important life skills, as well as equipping those hoping to work in the food or catering industry.
Results from a pilot scheme run in 2011 have indicated that the course is generally most suitable for students aged 14 and over. Upon successful completion of the training, students are awarded a level II certificate. The course includes:
- the importance of food safety and hygiene
- impact of foodborne illness
- understanding food law
- food safety hazards and contamination
- food preservation
- storage and temperature control
- personal hygiene
- hygienic premises and equipment
There are a limited number of spaces available for this project and applications are invited from schools in Wales best able to demonstrate a commitment to support student study. This would be done by identifying a nominated teacher who would be required to coordinate delivery of the course to students and providing a teacher supervised environment in which students would study and complete the training.
Please note that that any school or college participating in the Level II e-learning course in Food Hygiene would be expected to participate in the FSA's evaluation of the course.
