Fellowship opportunity PATH-SAFE Science Lead

We’re excited to offer this unique, two-and-a-half year, senior Fellowship to lead the delivery of the Pathogen Surveillance in Agriculture, Food and the Environment (PATH-SAFE) project. It’s a chance to undertake cutting-edge genomic science and contribute directly to the protection of UK food, agriculture and consumers.

We are part of a major cross-government project which aims to harness the power of genomic technology to identify and track foodborne pathogens and antimicrobial resistant organisms through the food system and environment. Read our news story about the £19.2 million major cross-government project. This Shared Outcomes Fund (SOF) programme will build a national database to enable ‘user-friendly’ analysis, storage and sharing of pathogen genome data and associated metadata. It will also test the application of novel genome-sequencing technologies for microbial surveillance, bringing together partners from academia, government and industry to produce a world-leading pathogen surveillance system.

What we are looking for

We are recruiting a talented scientist to lead on the delivery of this project.  This flexible Fellowship can be taken as either a full-time or part-time role, enabling the successful candidate to deliver ground-breaking academic research with a major impact on public health.  As well as having proven expertise in (microbial) genomics, you will also have experience of running large collaborative research projects and/or extensive sampling and surveillance programmes. You will be the kind of person who not only thrives in a fast paced, dynamic environment but is also comfortable engaging external stakeholders across a range of departments and sectors.
