Bivalve molluscs from Peru

A problem has been identified with the consumption of certain bivalve molluscs imported from Peru that were contaminated with the hepatitis A virus (HAV).

Since the consumption of those bivalve molluscs presents a serious risk for human health, it is appropriate to suspend imports of bivalve molluscs from Peru. However, imports of eviscerated Pectinidae of aquaculture origin that have undergone a heat treatment are permitted.

This prohibition, until 30 November 2018, is done by Commission Decision 2008/866/EC (as amended).
