Impact Assessments

An Impact Assessment (IA) is a policy tool to assess impacts of options considered, including the expected costs and benefits, and summarises the rationale for Government intervention. Understanding the costs, benefits, and risks of any new measure or proposal is fundamental to good policy making.

IAs are first published on our website under consultation, and these can be found alongside relevant consultation and engagement documents.  Following the consultation process IA’s are reviewed and updated in relation to any new information or evidence provided.  A final stage IA is then produced by the Food Standards Agency and published below.
