Delivering Safe Food Consultative Group

The Delivering Safe Food Consultative Group aims to ensure effective engagement with the key stakeholders involved in the Agency's work to improve microbiological food safety through the Foodborne Disease Strategy and the Food Hygiene Delivery Programme. These two FSA work programmes are complementary and share many key stakeholders.

The group, which meets twice a year, scrutinises and challenges the direction of these programmes, and provides a practical and real-world perspective to the plans. It supports the delivery by maximising the potential for effective partnership between the Agency and external stakeholders.


The Consultative Group’s purpose is to scrutinise and challenge the direction of the Foodborne Disease Strategy (FDS) and the Food Hygiene Delivery Programme (FHDP). By considering the two work programmes together, the Consultative Group and its members contribute to the Agency’s work in these areas by providing practical and real-world perspective on the delivery of food hygiene controls and reduction of foodborne disease. More specifically, the purpose of the group is to:

  • engage with the two programmes, providing support and advice;
  • maximise the potential for identifying and developing opportunities for effective partnership between the FSA and external stakeholders to support delivery of the activities, aims and objectives of both programmes;
  • identify areas of work that require more detailed discussion and expert contribution through sub-groups;
  • identify relevant key messages that relate to risk management and communication, to be conveyed to other FSA corporate meetings on an on-going basis.


The group’s remit is to consider issues relating to microbiological food hygiene controls and reduction of microbiological foodborne disease as appropriate to the development and delivery of the Foodborne Disease Strategy or Food Hygiene Delivery Programme.
