Tara Smith, Director of People and Resources

Tara Smith joined the FSA in June 2022.
She previously worked at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), where she had been the Strategic Finance Director since July 2020 leading on the Department’s finance strategy and advice, Spending reviews and fiscal events, and European Social Fund. Her role also included Planning and Business Planning for the Finance Group. Tara was the Senior sponsor for the Disability Engagement Group. Prior to this, Tara held the post of Finance Director, Finance and Banking Services and had responsibility for the Department’s financial and performance reporting, Annual Report and Accounts, provision of payment and banking services, managing the shared services providers and overseeing the Department’s debt management services.
Tara is a Chartered Accountant and started her career with PwC, working in Ireland, Canada and UK for more than 10 years focusing on food manufacturing and financial services clients. She then worked for five years as Senior Finance Manager at a financial services FTSE250 company, Provident Financial Group.
She joined the Civil Service in 2006 working in both the DWP and Department for Health and Social Care across a range of finance roles.
Tara is an active member of the Government Finance Function and a member of the People Committee and Deputy Director Talent Forum.
Since July 2021, Tara has been a co-opted committee member for Leeds Trinity University and from August 2022, she will join as Governor and Trustee.
