Our work is underpinned by the latest science and evidence.

Central to FSA’s mission of food you can trust is our guiding principle of being science and evidence led. This means that all our advice and decisions – including food policy and product authorisations – are underpinned by the latest cutting-edge scientific evidence, which we publish openly.

We use science and evidence to tackle the challenges of today, to identify and address emerging risks, and to ensure the UK food regulation framework is modern, agile and represents consumer interests. We are evidence generators and collaborators working across scientific disciplines including:

  • physical sciences
  • natural sciences
  • economics
  • operational research
  • risk assessment
  • statistics
  • social science
  • data science

We get information from a range of sources, including our own research, research we commission and our independent Scientific Advisory Committees
