List of official feed and food control laboratories in the UK

Last updated:
20 June 2016
In the UK, official feed and food laboratories are Public and Agricultural Analyst and Microbiology laboratories (Food Examiners) that undertake work for Local Authorities. Also listed are other specifically designated laboratories which undertake Official Controls in specified areas for the FSA, FSS and Local Authorities.

All laboratories listed can be used by any Local Authority, FSA or FSS for Official Controls.  Official laboratories must employ staff who possess qualifications which are defined by national legislation.  In addition, laboratories must have a Public / Agricultural Analyst (formally appointed by a Local Authority) or a qualified Food Examiner in order to be designated as an Official Control Laboratory.

The FSA is responsible for designating the majority of official feed and food control laboratories in the UK according to the National Control Plan, as required by Regulation (EC) 882/2004. The Food Standards Agency does not own or operate any of these laboratories.

Any enquiries should be directed to the laboratory itself.
