Research into changes in food labelling requirements

An evaluation of changes to food labelling requirements with people with food hypersensitivities and food businesses. IFF Research have been commissioned by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) to conduct a research project on recent changes to food labelling requirements. These changes relate to the labelling rules around what information food businesses have to provide to consumers. The research follows on from previous research on the same topic. IFF Research are working in partnership with PanelBase to deliver this project and are in contact with some UK based allergies charities.

When is the research taking place and what does it involve?

IFF Research and their partners will be conducting online surveys with consumers that have food hypersensitivities (allergies, intolerances and coeliac disease) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This will take place during November and December 2022 when they will be inviting a range of people to get involved and will be working with allergen charities to encourage people to take part. You might have heard about this project through social media, from allergies charities directly, or from IFF.

Alongside this, IFF Research and their partners will also be conducting telephone surveys with food businesses in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. They will be seeking to engage with a broad range of food businesses that sell food directly to consumers. You may have heard about this part of the research after having received a phone call from someone calling on IFF Research’s behalf.

IFF Research will also be contacting consumers with food hypersensitivities and food businesses to take part in telephone / online conference (e.g., Zoom, teams) interviews. These will be taking place between December 2022 and February 2023.
