Ifan Lloyd is a veterinary surgeon with over 35 years’ experience in clinical practice, including 17 years as a Partner in mixed, multi centre veterinary practice in Swansea where he specialised in production animal medicine (beef and sheep). Born and raised on a dairy farm and Welsh Cob Stud near Aberystwyth, Ifan holds honours degrees in Agriculture at Bangor University and Veterinary Medicine at Cambridge University. He retired from clinical practice in 2023 and now focuses on consultancy and roles that support animal health in Wales. 

Ifan is a director of Iechyd Da (gwledig) Ltd, the veterinary delivery partner responsible for TB testing services in South Wales, and Cefn Gwlad Solutions Ltd, which delivers TB-related disease risk management initiatives across Wales. He is a member of the British Veterinary Association (BVA) national Policy Committee and Welsh Branch Council, having served as BVA Welsh Branch President from 2019 to 2021 which coincided with several policy roles during the Covid 19 pandemic.  He was a member of the Wales Animal Health and Welfare Framework Group 2014 to 2021. During this time, he was a member of the Welsh Government EU Exit Roundtable group contributing to scenario setting for the livestock sector and later trading arrangements after exit. 

An advocate of One Health he has been involved in several national programmes including AMR (antimicrobial resistance) which support Wales’s goals for safe, sustainable food production. 

Ifan lives on a smallholding where he and his family breed and show pedigree Ryeland sheep, maintaining strong links to rural farming communities. Ifan is also a competitive endurance runner and qualified coach. He has won multiple national age-group titles, including the World Masters marathon championships in 2024, highlighting his commitment to health and wellness.
